Atal Bihari Vajpayee admitted to AIIMS, hospital says ex-PM stable

New Delhi : Former Prime Minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee was admitted to the All India Institute for Medical Sciences (AIIMS) in New Delhi for "examination and management", the hospital said.

"He is stable. A team of doctors under the supervision of Dr Randeep Guleria, Director, AIIMS, are conducting tests," it said in a statement. (See below)

The BJP said Vajpayee was taken to the hospital for a routine check-up.

Atal Bihari Vajpayee, a veteran BJP leader, served as prime minister thrice - briefly in 1996, and for two terms between 1998 and 2004.

A distinguished lawmaker, Vajypayee won conferred the title of India's Best Parliamentarian' in 1994.

In 2015, he was awarded the Bharat Ratna, India's highest civilian award.
